Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II is a civil rights leader, author, and co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for a Moral Revival, a movement uniting tens of thousands of people across the country to challenge the evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation and the nation’s distorted morality. He is also the architect of the Forward Together Moral Monday Movement, a coalition of faith leaders and activists who routinely protested poverty and discrimination in Raleigh, North Carolina, and a pastor of the Greenleaf Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Goldsboro. He is the 2015-2016 recipient of the Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship.

Marielena Hincapié is the Executive Director of the National Immigration Law Center, the main organization dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of low-income immigrants in the U.S. Under her executive leadership, Ms. Hincapié is highly respected for her legal and political strategies and is seen as a bridge builder within the immigrants’ rights field as well as across broader social justice sectors.

Michael Tubbs is the first African-American Mayor of Stockton, California, and the youngest mayor in American history of a city of more than 100,000 people. He is the youngest elected official in Stockton’s history and one of the youngest elected officials in the nation. In 2017, he launched Need to Impeach, which has gathered 5.5 million signatures from Americans calling for the impeachment of President Trump. He is also the founder of NextGen, an organization that acts politically to prevent climate disaster, promote prosperity, and protect the fundamental rights of every American.

Paul Engler is a co-founder of the Momentum Training, which instructs hundreds of activists each year in the principles of effective protest. He is the co-author, along with Mark Engler, of the book on the craft of mass mobilization, This Is an Uprising: How Nonviolent Revolt Is Shaping the Twenty-First Century.

Maria Mendoza Sanchez was working as an oncology nurse at Highland Hospital in Oakland when she was deported. This ripped her family apart, and she now resides in Mexico with her husband and young son. Her three daughters remain in Oakland where they are finishing their schooling. Garnering widespread media attention, hundreds of community members and coworkers rallied to keep Maria in the U.S.
